How to accept Mobile Money donations on WordPress

To accept Mobile Money donations on a WordPress site, install a crowdfunding plugin that creates donation pages, and a Mobile Money payment gateway for WooCommerce to take the payments. Fosia Crowdfunding Lite and Fosia Pay Lite do both for free, with unlimited campaigns and donations and no commission.

What you need

• A WordPress site with WooCommerce and HTTPS (each donation is a WooCommerce order, so receipts, totals and refunds work as usual).
• A payment account for Mobile Money, connected with Fosia Pay.
• A cause, a goal and a few lines on what the money will pay for.

Step 1: install the two free plugins

Install Fosia Pay Lite from WordPress.org and connect your payment account (see the setup guide). Then install Fosia Crowdfunding Lite the same way: Plugins › Add New, search “Fosia Crowdfunding”, Install and Activate.

Step 2: create the campaign

Give it a title, a goal, an end date and a story. Add budget lines (“what your money pays for”): donors give more when they see where the money goes. Suggest three or four amounts that match local wallets, for example 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 RWF.

Step 3: share it where your donors are

Each campaign page has WhatsApp, copy-link and QR sharing. Print the QR code for a church notice board, a school gate or an event.

Step 4: thank and report

Post updates on the campaign page and export the donations as CSV. Donor names stay private unless the donor ticks “Show my first name”.
